Abstract

Morphological variations in Hemiodus orthonops ovaries were studied, aiming to determine the spawning frequency and mechanism. The reproductive cycle was divided in four stages: pre-vitellogenesis, incipient vitellogenesis, advanced vitellogenesis and post-spawning. These were characterized considering the morphometrical aspects and the nucleocytoplasmic relation. The spawning occurred in September-December period, observing three oocytary groups, the minor size oocyte to establish the reserve stock.
