Abstract

On the São Paulo State coast occur three species of penaeid: Penaeus schmitti (white shrimp), P. brasiliensis and P. paulensis (pink shrimps), and two nurturing places: the lagoon-estuarine regions of Bertioga and Cananéia (the main one). This paper presents informations obtained from researches carried on Cananéia. The white shrimp goes in to the estuary from October until January (mainly in November), and goes back to the sea mainly in February. The pink shrimps do not show migrations so evident. It seems that they go in between March and May, and go out in July and August. Into the Cananéía estuary the white shrimp fisheries take place from February until May and the catch of pink shrimps is inexpressive.
