Interactive fishery between dolphins and fishermen

Abstract

The fishery behavior of Sotalia fluviatilis guianensis, a common dolphin from Brazilian coast, was studied for eight years in the estuary of Cananéia, in the south of São Paulo State, southeastern Brazil. During this time, it was observed the dolphins making use of four tricks of fishery which helped the activity of the fishermen. On the other hand, it was registered that the dolphins take advantage from the utilization of the local traps for fishing ("cerco-fixo") by the fishermen.
