Abstract

559 adults of C. hippurus caught near the surface from long-line boats and 257 juveniles collected from stomach of apex epipelagic predators, indicate that over the edge of the continental shelf the species inhabit near the surface. Copepods were the main food of the early juveniles but fishes was the dominant item from 47 mm. Those fishes are primarily brephoepipelagic juveniles and means an important energy transfer from the neritic, benthonic and mesopelagic zones to the epipelagic zone.
