(Fishery and biology aspects of Sciaenidae Stellifer brasiliensis (Schultz, 1945) present in the sea-bob shrimp artesanal fishery, São Paulo, Brazil)

Abstract

A total of 2145 exemplars of Stellifer brasiliensis from 54 samples from the fishery directed to the sea-bob shrimp (between 4 and 15 meters deep), in four sampling places at São Paulo State coast, were analyzed in the 1978-1979 period. The length of recruitment of the species for the fishery analyzed was 6.0 cm (excluded Cananéia - 7.5 cm). The interval of classes of high vulnerability for the species in this fishery was different depending on the sampling place: 6.0-10.5 cm in Ubatuba; 6.0-8.5 cm in Perequê (Guarujá); 6.0-9.5 cm in Peruí­­be and 7.5-11.5 cm in Cananéia. From the total sampled a sex-ratio of 1:3 was observed that may signify a negative selective incidence of the fishery in the S. brasiliensis population. The estimated length for the first gonadal maturation to the species was 7.3 cm. In the fishery analyzed occurs a high mortality of juveniles and individuals that, probably did not yet spawn for the first time. The weight-length relationship formula was determined:
