Seven surveys for the assessment of the state of the stock of the Argentine hake (Merluccius hubbsi) covering the Argentinean-Uruguayan Common Fishing Zone were analyzed in order to establish the areas of higher juveniles’ concentrations. For all the cruises, the juveniles’ concentration areas were found between depths of 50 and 200 m and latitudes 34°18’S and 37°20’S. The protection of this part of the hake’s population is discussed as a precautory measure for the exploitation of this resource by Uruguay and Argentina.
