The diagnosis of lobster catchers was developed between July and October 2007, through interviews composed by 37 questions aiming the socio-economic knowledge of the lobster catchers community, investigating the motivation of that community to participate of productive activities, in order to complement their salary. All the lobster catchers were interviewed after a research in the community. The mensal income of most of them is between R$ 201.00 and R$ 400.00. Those who have a lower salary complement it with other activities, such as civil construction, commerce and informal ones. The lobster fisherman communities of Seixas and Penha beaches are characterized by the new ingress of young men, who are exploring this resource (38% have less than 20 years), and by the gradual changing in the fishing gear, following the law requirements, and by the lack of inspection in conformity with the public politics, in a way of sustainability of the lobster catching in the region.
