Factors affecting the quality of the fish in artisanal fisheries of municipalities of south coast of São Paulo, Brazil
Keywords:

Artisanal fishermen in the municipalities of São Vincente and Itanhaém - São Paulo State, Brazil, were evaluated between August 2007 and July 2008, through interviews, including subjective and objective questions in modules about sanitary, social and economic factors. In Itanhaém there were also technical visits to sites of handling and marketing of fish. Results indicated failures in the use of hygienic-sanitary practices from capture to the marketing places. Thus, it is recommended to implement public policies programs in artisanal fisheries to surmount this scenario. These programs should include specific actions to improve the quality of the fish, resulting in consumer safety.
