Influence of diet on the cultivation of Mysidopsis juniae (Silva, 1979) (Crustacea: Misida) in laboratory

Abstract

Mysidopsis juniae is the species of mysid used in acute marine assays in Brazil. However, as a test organism, it has to be cultivated in the laboratory to obtain the juveniles whenever needed. This work evaluates the influence of a diet based on nauplii of Artemia sp., bioencapsulated with eight different formulations, on growth, survival, number of embryos per female and time to release of the juveniles. Experiments showed that cod liver oil is of fundamental importance in the enrichment of nauplii of Artemia, and that results in larger organisms from the cultivations, with longer survival. Meanwhile, its use in conjunction with vitamins (vitamin complex B1 and B12) can optimize these parameters, as it is just as efficient, if not more so, than a mixture of different types of oils, presenting release of the juveniles after shorter cultivation times.
