Fish assemblage list of the Sinos river basin, south Brazil

Abstract

The Sinos river basin has suffered with the degradation of its aquatic habitats for many years, especially in areas of intense urbanization. The great number of acute and chronic impacts caused by the anthropogenic activities justifies an updated inventory of the fish diversity. This checklist is the result of several projects of the Laboratory of Fish Ecology of Unisinos since 1996 and of a bibliographic review of other institutions. This work resulted in a list of 102 fish species. From these, 12 species are aliens in Sinos river basin. This updated list may be an important tool to assess the future development of the ichthyocenosis.
