Abstract

With the purpose of ascertaining some blood characteristics of the "cascudo", Plecostomus albopunctatus Regan (1908), 114 fishes were ana1ysed, considering the gonadal maturation stage, from February 1979 to January 1980. The analyses characteristics were: erytrocyte and leucocyte counts, hemoglobin concentration and haematocrit percentage, and were estimated the mean values of hematological index: Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV); Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin (MCH) and Mean Corpuscu1ar Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC). The analysis of variance showed a significant difference at 1% probability (** = P < 0.01) among the blood characteristics at the different gonadal maturation stages.
