Abstract

The description of chromatic polimorphism in rainbow trout (Salmo irideus, Gibbons) was carried out at the Estação Experimental de Salmonicultura de Campos do Jordão, São Paulo. The types of pigment cells (chromatophores) present in the skin of young fishes, born from the mating of 47 brown (standard coloration) and yellow ancestrals were studied. The results indicated that, besides these two colorations six more color patterns were detected, according to quantitative and qualitative variations of chromatophoral systems.
