Comparison of the landings dynamics from shrimp trawl fisheries fleets of São Paulo State, Brazil

Abstract

The landings of shrimp fishery in the Nipo-Brasileira Fishery Cooperative (Sao Paulo State, Brazil) were analyzed considering data from the year of 1988. The catches of the sea-bob shrimp (Xiphopenaeus kroyeri) and those of the red spotted shrimp (Farfantepenaeus paulensis and F. brasiliensis) were compared towards the shrimp and the by-catch landings. It was observed that both fleets utilized the by-catch landings as a balance mechanism to arise the fisheries economic income. The by-catch landing quantities showed different results between the fleets, which is higher in the red spotted shrimp fleet. Other details of the trawl fleets landings dynamics were discussed.
