Critérios morfométricos para seleção de fenótipos de alto rendimento em Epinephelus marginatus (Lowe, 1834) criado em diferentes sistemas comerciais

Este estudo avaliou características morfométricas como critérios de seleção indireta para fenótipos de alto rendimento em garoupa-verdadeira (Epinephelus marginatus) criada em três sistemas comerciais de produção: fluxo contínuo de água (FC), tanques-rede marinhos (TRM) e viveiros estuarinos (VE). Os peixes (n = 55) foram abatidos aos 730 dias para avaliação do peso à despesca (PD) e volume de carne (VC). As diferenças de rendimento entre os sistemas foram analisadas por análise de variância seguida do teste de Tukey (p < 0,05). Os pares de características morfométricas comprimento padrão (CP), comprimento de cabeça (CC), altura corporal (AC) e largura corporal (LC) foram avaliados por classificação em quadrantes com base nas médias de cada característica, gerando quatro grupos: alto-alto, alto-baixo, baixo-alto e baixo-baixo. O PD e o VC foram comparados entre os quadrantes utilizando o teste t de Welch. CP × AC foi o melhor critério no FC e AC × LC no VE para PD, sem diferenças significativas no TRM. Não foram detectadas diferenças significativas para VC em nenhum sistema. Apesar do tamanho amostral limitado, os resultados sugerem que características morfométricas mensuráveis em animais vivos podem ser úteis para a seleção fenotípica indireta objetivando maior peso, dependendo do sistema de produção.
