Characteristcs of carcass and performance of tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum, CUVIER, 1818) in different times of cultivation and fed with commercial diets

Abstract

The study evaluated the carcass yield and degree of visceral fat deposition of the tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) at different times of culture and feeding with different commercial diets, and performance parameters of the fish. There was a significant effect (p <0.05) of the time of cultivation on the yield of fish without head, skin and fins (RPISC), fillet (RFILE) and index of visceral fat (IGV). The type of feed offered influenced significantly (p <0.05) the IGV. To RPISC and RFILE, the highest rates were observed in longer time of cultivation (167 days), while the lowest value of IGV was observed in the shortest time of cultivation (107 days). The efficiency of the abdominal muscle (MA) and gutted whole fish (RPIE) showed no influence on the time of culture and type of diet.
