Abstract

With an objective to detect the food habits of Mugil platanus from Cananéia lagoon estuarine region (25°01'S, 47°56'W), 105 stomach contents were analyzed. The specimens with length varying from 8 to 62 cm were collected between August/1988 and July/1989. The relative importance of different components of the diet was expressed as frequency of occurrence. The most frequent items were Bacillariophyceae and detritus. The relative proportions of the main dietary items varied according to seasonal variations and growth changes.
