This paper intends to determine the selectivity curve of gill nets used to cate h the Brazilian freshwater fish "Pirambeba" (Serrasalmus spilopleura), according to Gulland (1969). The result is:
C*(L)= e-0.1342(L í 1.1047 m)2
Where:
c*(L) = relative frequency of retention
L = total length of the fish
m = internal perimeter of the mesh.
It was also noticed that the best result for catching this species employing gill nets were obtained in the Summer season and at 0 m-3 m depth.
