Abstract

The purpose of this work was to determine the selectivity curve of gill-nets utilized for catching of Macrodon ancylodon in the São Paulo State coast, through the model proposed by Gulland (1971). The results indicate that the mean selectivity of these nets can be represented by: C*(L)= e -0.0263(L í  1.8897m)² and the interval of selection for different mesh size (m) is given by:(Lm) =  1.8897 m í  5.13(cm) e (LM) = 1.8897 m + 5.13(cm). It was aIso determined the optimum mesh size for catching, 4.0 cm and over (mesh=bar) to prevent capturing imature individuaIs and maximum yield in commercial size of this species.
