Abstract

It was studied the crowding effect (1, 5, 10 and 15 animals per liter) on the gain in weight in tadpoles of "bull-frog" (Rana catesbeiana Shaw, 1802), in an outdoor experimental station. The conclusion is that as the number of tadpoles per liter of water increases, the gain in weight diminishes. This effect can be calculated by the equation Y = 8.096 - 0.8201 X + 0.02504 X2, where X is tadpoles per liter and Y their mean gain in weight, within the studied density limits.
