Abstract

With the purpose to know the type of spawning of curimbatá, Prochilodus scrofa, 49 females were collected in different stages of gonadal development, from September 1980 to September 1981, in Mogi-Guaçu river, Pirassununga, São Paulo. The study was based on percentual frequency of diameters of oocytes distribution and macroscopic characteristics of ovaries. It was observed that the females present total spawn and in some cases they can eliminate the oocytes in partial batches.
