Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to identify the alevins of mugilids that occur at the region of Ubatuba (SP) and to observe the periods of its highest occurrences. During the period of September 1983 through October 1984, monthly captures were realized at the mouth of Praia Grande River in llha Anchieta, with a beach seine net ("picaré") made of cloth ("filó"), with 2.5 m of length and 1.5 m of height. After biometry, the fishes were identified through the number of anal fin rays and spins, number of scales in the lateral series and the kind of the scale, which permitted to verify the presence of "parati", Mugil curema, and "tainhas", Mugil liza and/or Mugil platanus. It was noted that the highest occurrences of alevins of "paraii" were in summer and autumn and of "tainhas" in winter and spring.
