Abstract

Fishery effort and catches per unit of effort of the tunas Thunnus alalunga, T. obesus and T. albacares, achieved by Japanese and Brazilian fleets in Southwestern Atlantic were analyzed. Differences in the species composition were observed in function of distinctive areas of fisheries and directed effort. The best catch areas utilized by the Japanese fleet were situated southeastward of the Brazilian fleet fishery area.
