Abstract

ln the central region of State of São Paulo, Brazil, the Salto Grande Stream is part of the hydrographic basin of the Jacaré Pepira River. The water temperature (median 21°C) followed the air temperature (median 23°C) and were found related with the vegetation cover, the physiography and the management of the hydrographic basin. The color and turbidity were low (medians 70 mg/L-Pt and 29 FTU, respectively) with high sporadic values (maxims of 1440 mg/L-Pt, 490 FTU, respectively). The cattle range runoff increased color and turbidity. The presence of swamps decreased turbidity. The vicinity of an unpaved road that has a relatively intense traffic and the trampling of cattle increased color and turbidity.
