Abstract

As mortality in Macrobrachium acanthurus infected with chitinivorous bacteria and fungi could be a prob1em in a cu1ture system, it was studied the incidence of this disease upon the shrimp population of Ribeira de Iguape River (Registro - SP), its relation to the temperature, treatment and profilaxis. The mean percentage of infected animals during the period of study was 27.40% {minimum = 12.10% and maximum = 48.10%}; it was obtained a linear positive correlation between percentage of infected individuals and temperature. The problem was controlled, at the laboratory, with a salt solution treatment {20%} during 20 minutes. Prophylactic cares, as maintenance of density not superior to 20 animals/m2, biological filtration and daily feeding with a balanced diet were also adopted.
