Abstract

Some aspects of reproduction of Plecostomus albopunctatus Regan, 1908 in Jaguari River were studied from June 1974 to September 1976. The macroscopic morphological changes in the gonads of 711 males and 506 females were described in five maturation stages: young, resting, maturation, mature and spent. The maturation curve and the relative frequency of the maturity stages show that the spawning occurs from October to January, when the average temperature of the water is 22°-23°C. The condition factor value increases in the pre-spawning and decreases after spawning.
