Abstract

In this paper the growth curves for length and weight gain were determined for the population of Macrobrachium iheringi from Buava River (São Paulo State, Brazil). The weight/length relationship, maximum weight and length and the correspondent age in which they are reached by the animals were determined, as well as the probable reproduction period and the first maturity size. For all the relations studied, sexual dimorphism was observed. The results that were obtained do not recommend the commercial culture of M. iheringi since the growth curves delimited showed that the maximum average of length and weight will only be attained after two years, being advised only the extensive or non-commercial culture, since this species reproduces with less than four months and independs of brackish water for its development.
