Abstract

This study analyses the influence of the food, natural and/or artificial, on the growth of males of Oreochromis niloticus and the economical viability of these cultures. Males were stocked in four 100 m²ponds at a ratio of 1.5 fish/m². Analyses were done using four treatments: pig manure; pig manure plus ration; chicken manure; chicken manure plus ration. The results obtained in the treatments show that the level of production of natural food seems to be used only for maintenance of the fishes and that the supplementary ration has a positive effect on the production, with a profit seven times higher than reached by the treatments that received only fertilization.
