Abstract

A total of 4,416 specimens of Paralonchurus brasiliensis was analyzed in this paper. They were obtained from 96 samples collected in bob-shrimp (Xiphopenaeus kroyeri) artisanal fisheries from 1978 to 1981. The boats operated between 4 and 15 m of depth, off São Paulo State. The length of macroscopic sex determination (that can be considered as the length in the beginning of the adult phase), at a level of 50%, was 14.6 cm. As specimens of Paralonchurus brasiliensis from the classes 2.0 to 24.0 cm were caught, with a higher incidence over the classes 9.0 and 12.0 cm, it was observed that this fishery caught mainly juveniles, being the studied area a place of growth for this species, which is more abundant in the summer and fall.
