Abstract

This study was designed to obtain information regarding to aspects of food's dynamics and habits of Oligosarcus jenynsii at Caconde Lagoon, RS, Brazil. The specimens (356 females and 311 males) were collected between Jul./1992 and May/94. The analyses were performed based on variation on the repletion and hepatosomatic indexes and on the condition factor. Stomach contents were analized by frequency of occurrence and by importance food index for each component. The specimens were better fed before and after the reproductive period. In the same period the highest values of the hepatosomatic index occurred. The condition factor was influenced by gonadal weight, mainly in females. The species presented food habit carnivorous, with having a tendency to piscivory.
