Abstract

The result of replacement of broiler liver by corn gluten meal in granulated diets for jundia larvae (Rhamdia quelen) was verified. During 21 days, four kinds of diet (four treatments) were tested, corresponding to the following different levels of replacement of the broiler liver by corn gluten meal in granulated ration: 0, 33, 66 and 100%. The experiment was developed with a total of 2,400 larvae, maintained in a water closed system with controlled temperature (25°C). Water quality parameters of the rearing system were daily checked: temperature (°C), total ammonia (ppm), nitrite (ppm), dissolved oxygen (mg/L), pH and alkalinity (mgCaCO3/L). Every seven days, ten larvae of each experimental unit were captured for accomplishment of weight and length measurements. The estimated variables were: total length (CT), standard length (CP), survival (S), weight (P), product weight vs survival (PXS), specific growth rate (TCE), and condition factor (FC). The results registered in the 7th day of experiment show there were variations among the treatments, with the values following a cubic tendency (third order) for all variables (P < 0.05). In the 14th day, decreasing linear effect was observed for the variables total length (CT), standard length (CP), and condition factor (FC). In the final of the experiment, i.e., in the 21st day of it, decreasing linear effect (P < 0.05) of the inclusion of corn gluten in the ration was verified for all the variables, and the larvae fed with ration in the base of broiler liver (GM0) presented higher growth. Thus, it may be concluded that the partial or total replacement of broiler liver by corn gluten was inefficient in the performance of jundiá (Rhamdia quelen) larvae.
