The benthic community and some physical and chemical characteristics of the water of four rivers of the "Parque Estadual de Campos do Jordão" were studied and the investigations were conduct in five sections through monthly collects from March 1984 to February 1985, with the purpose of to know this characteristics and to subsidize informations in order to populate them with rainbow trout (Salmo irideus). The results allow to conclude that Galharada, Canhambora and Casquilho streams have conditions of keeping trout fry, and that Sapucaí-Guaçu is not favorable to the growth of this fish. Related to the climate of the region, the data of temperature and rain (precipitation) permit to conclude, according to Koeppen's classification, that it is Cfb, i.e., sub-tropical of altitude (temperate), mesotermic and humid, without drought and with average temperature of the hottest month inferior to 22°C.
