Taxas de captura de espadarte e de tubarão azul no sudoeste do Atlí¢ntico entre as décadas de 1980 e 2000

O espadarte (Xiphias gladius) é um dos alvos principais da frota nacional e de parte da frota arrendada de espinhel pelágico. No entanto, as capturas de tubarão azul (Prionace glauca) são também elevadas. Com o intuito de obter mais conhecimento sobre a dualidade das capturas de espadarte e tubarão azul foram analisados dados de captura de 1980 a 2009 das frotas brasileiras nacionais e arrendadas. Em algumas áreas de pesca, as taxas de captura de ambas as espécies são elevadas, em outras, somente uma delas é capturada em abundí¢ncia. Em nenhum momento, as frotas arrendadas do Japão e de China Taipei tiveram uma ou outra das duas espécies como alvo, apresentando sempre capturas reduzidas. No entanto, a frota arrendada da Espanha claramente concentrou suas ações em áreas com elevadas taxas de captura de espadarte. Já a frota nacional concentrou seus esforços tanto em áreas em que predominam os espadartes quanto em áreas em que as taxas de captura de espadarte e tubarão azul são concomitantemente altas. Sendo a intenção minimizar o impacto da pesca na população de tubarão azul, uma das alternativas seria restringir a atuação das frotas í s áreas onde as taxas de captura de espadarte são elevadas e as de tubarão azul, reduzidas.
