Abstract

Spleen of Prochilodus scrofa contaminated with the organophosphorayle Dipterex 500 (Trichlorfon) was evaluated. The concentration of the contaminant was 0.2 µL/liter, using water as diluent. The juvenile fish were divided in two groups of 30 animals: one control group and other one exposed to the product. After 24 hours of exposition, control and exposed individual spIeens were coIected, set in Bouin and coIoured in HE. Both red and white substances of the control were scattered, showing high concentration of lymphocytes. In the animals exposed to Dipterex, the spleen tissue became atrophyed, with number of red cells decreasing, in such a way that the substance couldn't be seen. Picnotic nuclei and dead tissue were also observed.
