Abstract

Total lipid content of blood, liver, gonads and viscera, condition factor (K), hepato-somatic index (HSI), gonado-somatic index (GSI), and viscero-somatic index (VSI) were determined for male and female "curimbatá" Prochilodus scrofa caught in Moji Guaçu River (São Paulo, Brasil) in the resting stage. The different tissues of the fish show low variability between sexes with relation to lipid content, exception to the male gonadal leveI that was greater. There were no important differences between the biometric variables applied and the sexes, except the female GSI values that were significantly greater (P=0.05) than that of the males
