Abstract

Juveniles of "curimbatá", Prochilodus scrofa, were divided in two groups, placed each one in 81 liters aquarium, being one the control group, and the other, treated with Dipterex 500 (Trichlorfon), in a concentration of 0.2 µL/L, where the fishes stayed until the end of the experiment. Blood samples from 5 fishes of each group were collected 24, 48 and 72 hours after the beginning of the experiment. The blood was used to determine erythrocyte number, hematocrit, hemoglobin level, leucocyte differential count and hematimetric indices: MCV (mean corpuscular volume), MCH (mean corpuscular hemoglobin) and MCHC (mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration). The specimens exposed to Dipterex 500 showed, from the first to the third sampling, decrease of the medium value of hematocrit, erythrocyte number, hemoglobin level, MCH, and MCHC. The controlling specimens showed, during the whole experiment, close values to the ones obtained in the first collection. Limphocytes were the most frequent cells in the peripherical blood of the controlling group, while the neutrophills were the most frequent in the specimens exposed to the Dipterex 500. The fishes exposed to this product had noticed a decrease in the percentage of limphocytes and monocytes and an increase in those of neutrophills and immature cells, from the first to the third sampling. Basophills were only saw in the control group and eosinophills, in both groups, in the third sample.
